I don’t have much familiarity with DK Online, although I doubt that you do too. But that’s not going to stop me from swimming through the seas of its soundtrack this week to get a feel for this eastern fantasy MMO!
DK Online’s been around for about a decade now and only recently come to Steam. OK, it was back in 2019, but that’s still “recently” for my tastes. I picked out six tracks for us to listen to today, so check it out and get to know a new friend.
“City Ledise”
This city track starts with a bombastic fanfare before settling into something that’s both homey and exciting. It’s got that bright-eyed, bushy-tailed enthusiasm that I think is sadly missing from many modern RPGs.
“Field Balt”
I would say that this is a fair-to-decent adventuring track that would help to enhance a journey but wouldn’t make it especially memorable. It does get far more interesting at 1:36 when it quiets down a little and a flute comes out to play.
“Field Balt 2”
Balt must be a nice place, I’ve decided after listening to these two pieces. This one has a nice subtle echo to some of the early instruments, and it passes my “hummable test” where I can remember and hum the melody minutes after hearing it.
“Field Ledise”
This piece comes out with a waltz before meandering all over the place. It definitely has that movie-like storytelling feel to it where it’s underlying events that we’re not currently seeing.
“Field Ledise 2”
This one sounds so similar to the famous score of the 1993 movie Dave, but as I love that soundtrack, I’m not complaining. It’s a tremendous, swirly piece that is easily my favorite from this OST. If you give nothing else a listen on this list, make sure you check this one out.
“Warfare”
Well, we gotta have at least one non-cheery track on this list, right? Warfare starts all ominous-like before kicking the action into high gear. Just check out that percussion and choir! It’s not messing around, this one.
