Two of the biggest gaming congloms chose this week to lay off a combined total of 2500 people, as Riot Games and Microsoft-owned-Activision-Blizzard shed the people who make our games in order to reassure stockholders and mitigate careless corporate gambles. Here in our corner of the genre, we’re taking notice not just of the cancelation of survival MMO Odyssey and the decimation of the World of Warcraft support team but also of the volte-face of now-former president Mike Ybarra, who’d previously suggested he had planted firm roots in the company but has now apparently been shown the door.
Meanwhile, everyone’s playing Palworld, a plot twist that leaves people who were covering Palworld for the years prior to this explosion of interest (i.e., us) a bit speechless.
Read on to catch up with the very best of this week’s MMO news and opinions today as every Sunday (
since 2010!) in Massively Overpowered’s
