Tencent-backed Chimeraland is shutting down at the end of March

oh whale

Back in September of last year, we checked in on Tencent’s strange survival sandbox Chimeraland only to find that very little had happened… followed two days later by an utterly unexpected surprise update. Alas, it appears that was the last gasp rather than the start of a new era for the game, as developer Pixel Soft has returned to the game’s website to announce that the title will be shutting down at the end of March.

In-game purchases and new account creation have been shut down accordingly, as has access to download the game. There’s no word on what caused this particular shutdown, not on social media or on the game’s website or Discord, which have all been dormant for an extremely long time, although it seems likely that the game’s innate weirdness ultimately didn’t leave it with a large enough audience; similarly, there is no discussion about refunds, so don’t expect them. Our condolences to the fans and the developers who are looking to see the game shuttered – we mourn the loss of something odd but charmingly memorable.
